Spot Fleet Distributes Across Multiple Capacity Pools

The Spot Fleet API allows clients to manage an entire fleet of spot instances with a single command–RequestSpotFleet. AWS is enhancing this service by adding an “allocation strategy” option: you may now create a spot fleet containing spot instances from several capacity pools.

What this means is that you may use RequestSpotFleet with these additional parameters:

  • lowestPrice – a default strategy that will get instances with the lowest price.
  • diversified – an optional strategy that draws spot instances from all pools, so long as they are below your On-Demand price. You may use this in conjunction with resource-oriented bidding, which will then allow the capacity pools in your launch specification to have the same number of units.

You may start using this option today either through CLI or API-driven requests. If you need to set up your Spot Fleet first, let our AWS-certified cloud experts here in PolarSeven help out. Contact us today.
