Auto scaling life cycle hooks allow you to do actions when scaling instances. For example, you can install/modify applications when auto scaling launches an instance, or it can send log files to you once the instance is closed.
AWS has improved this feature by having life cycle hooks publish to Amazon CloudWatch events. This allows you to easily associate life cycle hook events with automated processes, such as calling Lambda functions.
AWS CloudWatch itself is a special service that allows you to monitor events across all your AWS services as they happen.
This additional feature comes free of charge. Just use PutLifeCycleHook to get started. If you want to create a streamlined automated process for scalable compute resources, contact us at PolarSeven to find out how.
