With Microsoft ending its support of its own Windows Server 2003 back in July 2015, users still running critical operations on this OS are left with little choice but to find alternatives. A conservative estimate puts 10 million still running on 2003.
Migration is a significant challenge to many organizations, but AWS can help. Here are some options for clients who need to migrate their systems out of Windows Server 2003.
Migrate 32-bit applications to the cloud
While some may believe that 32-bit apps cannot be run in the cloud, the opposite is actually true. AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) has 32-bit instances as well. You can make use of either Windows Server 2003 or Windows Sever 2008. With these, you can now have the time and space to use your 32-bit applications while evaluating other ways to migrate your systems.
If you wish, you may also run your 32-bit applications on 64-bit instances, which has its own advantages but requires the help of AWS support.
Migrate to a new OS
Modernize Legacy Apps
If you believe the time has come to modernize your applications, AWS provides an extensive amount of resources to help you do so. You can pick up documentation, tools, and code samples from the AWS Windows and .Net Developer Cache. On the other had, the AWS SDK for .NET makes it simpler to build applications on Windows and .NET. You can also find more information on the EC2 Developer Resources Page.
